WomenShelters.org is all about providing easy to find shelter listings for women in need. We want to make it simple and easy to use for women who need help quick.

We provide listings of emergency shelters, transitional housing, family shelters, residential treatment centers, and other residential services for women.

Our Domestic Abuse Help and Domestic Violence Help Services provide a wealth of tools, resources, support, goal planning, safety planning, referrals, spiritual support, individualized mentoring program, and pastoral support services.

We aim to provide the most relevant resources for homeless people in California, not the most extensive.

A complete list of California Shelters. Many are emergency shelters along with general homeless shelters and some transitional housing opportunities. Many of these shelters now have waiting lists. Please call before going to them. Many waiting lists are very long.

Effective with the passage of the 2013-2014 Budget Act and associated legislation, the Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP) no longer exists as of July 1, 2013. All ADP programs and staff, except the Office of Problem Gambling, transferred to the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).

Twelve steps treatment centers and meetings provide steps and a support group to help with an addiction to alcohol or another type of drug. These meetings are enough for some people to beat their addiction altogether, or for others they are beneficial when combined with other treatment methods, like counseling and rehab. These programs can actually make short-term treatments more effective, because they give long-term support afterwards.

California Food Pantries
There are several food pantries and food banks in the California. With help from users like you we have compiled a list of some. If you know of a listing that is not included here please submit new food pantries to our database.

The Salvation Army provides hot meals year-round for anyone in need. Free evening meals are available at various locations. Please use ‘Find a Center’ on our site and contact your local Salvation Army to find out how you can help or get information about meal times and locations.

LawHelpCA.org helps people of low and moderate incomes find free legal information and legal aid programs in their communities

Ninety-five separate nonprofit organizations are funded by the Justice Gap Fund to provide and/or support free civil legal services to low-income Californians.

The 12 State Benefit Programs

Assistance and grants are available in all cities and counties throughout California, including Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. In addition to the programs below, find organizations and charities in California that can provide help with paying bills.
